We’re advancing the ‘E’ in STEM to ensure every young person has the opportunity to explore engineering in ways that are inclusive, inspiring, and relevant.

By working together to inspire connection, drive inclusion, showcase engineering, and improve impact, we’re opening doors to futures that reflect the full diversity of Canada’s learners.

Why this work matters

Engineering is a key driver of innovation and problem-solving in our world, yet it remains the least understood and least represented discipline within STEM education. Despite its critical role in shaping sustainable solutions for the future, engineering is often overlooked or misrepresented in classrooms, limiting students' understanding of what engineers do and the pathways available to them.

Take collective action

Key reasons for this approach:

Representation gaps: Engineering continues to be perceived as a male-dominated field, deterring many young people, particularly girls and underrepresented groups, from exploring it as a viable career option.

Lack of early exposure: Unlike science and math, engineering is rarely introduced in early education, causing many students to miss out on the opportunity to discover their interest in the field.

Challenging prerequisites: High school course requirements, such as physics, often become barriers that prevent students from pursuing engineering pathways, especially when they lack access to resources and support.

Workforce demand: Canada faces a growing need for diverse engineering talent to tackle critical challenges like climate change, infrastructure renewal, and technological innovation. By advancing the 'E' in STEM, we are investing in a stronger, more resilient future for all.
